PSA

Since originally creating this persona in 1997 two major changes have taken place:

    1. I had originally chosen the name "Bhairavi" when I first decided to develop an Indian persona. As I learned more about Indian culture and defined this persona to be specifically South Indian I came to learn that "Vairavi" would be a more appropriate version of the name for a Tamil speaker. I have attempted to correct the spelling wherever possible, but I was known as Bhairavi for many years and I cannot control information off of my own website. If you see reference to a "Bhairavi" in the SCA elsewhere on the Internet, it is highly likely it is referring to me.

    2. I had always felt a little uncomfortable portraying a Hindu persona, as I know very little about the religion and did not feel like I would ever be enthusiastic enough about learning its many vagaries to give it proper consideration. Upon discovering that a form of Atheism (known as 'Carkvaka' or 'Lokayata') existed in medieval India, I altered Vairavi's persona story to take on this philosophy. Some of the In-Persona writings I have created were written before this transition but I have chosen to leave them up as-is, and consider them to be reflective of a particular time in Vairavi's life, and not necessarily contemporary with her "current" mode of thought.
