National Day of Action

the 6th of July 2011

Hello everyone

I am writing from Kapiti just north of Wellington where some of you probably know we are faced with one of the roads of national significance being bulldozed through our district despite a more logical, less expensive and community-friendly alternative.

We are holding a rally at Parliament on Wednesday 6 July (see attached draft flyer) and would love you to be a part of it.

Understandably it is difficult for many of you to get down to Wellington but if you could send the invite out to your groups, we would love the support.

Alan Preston from 'The Way Forward' website had the idea that those of you who can't make it to Wellington may be willing to be part of a 'national day of action' and could organise something locally within your own region - perhaps a group outside your national MP's office or outside your local council.

We have good support locally and from community groups in Wellington Central but feel it is time for the various groups around New Zealand to join in one voice.

Although we are fighting against a road in favour of another (more environmentally sensitive) road in Kapiti, we are also asking for an upgrade of our rail including Raumati Station that is jeopardised by the RoNS ( Roads of National Significance).

We are also highly aware of the threats to the rail budget nationwide due to the huge investment this government wants to put into roading.

Manu Caddie (Gisbourne District Council & the Gisborne-Napier Rail Action Group has agreed to support us with something in his district already.

If any others of you are interested in finding our more information, please email me back with your contact phone details.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Bianca Begovich
