Waiotira Junction

May 2016 Waiotira is where the Dargaville Branch Line meets the North Auckland Line

163 km north of Auckland - by road

The Dargaville Branch is a branch line railway that leaves the North Auckland Line not far south of Whangarei and runs westward to Dargaville. Construction of this relatively short line took approximately two decades, and when it was completed, it linked the now closed Donnelly's Crossing Section with the national rail network.[1][2] The branch has been closed to all traffic since 2014 and is currently used by a tourist railcart operation.[3]

The above picture ( on google maps ) was taken from the road bridge over the old Station looking North.

Visible are 3 tracks one well maintained, 2 in use and 3 broken.

On the left is a long platform edge. On the right a flood light pole. In the distance a red signal light for the line to Dargaville.

This a "google street view" so you can turn the view around.

This is a Rail station just waiting to be used.

One idea is to establish a Fertiliser depot here for the farming region.

A place like this needs a local freight operator with a truck and hiab and forklift then any freight can go on/off the rail.

I dont know if logs are here. What about road building materials ?
