Used gear for sale

Why would you buy used gear ? When you are on a budget or when you're not sure about which model you want to buy you might want to buy used gear gear first.

Used gear might show a bit of use with the odd scratch but could be just as good as a new item. You would have to take the item for a "test dive" to make sure all is in good working condition. If that's OK and you trust the seller, I can't see a problem with using used gear.

For more things the consider, see further down.

Dive

Scuba

Besides making sure the item is in good working order and been looked after / maintained properly, you might want to consider the below.

Thoughts re ..............................

BCD.

- is all the stitching still good.

- are the dump valves and LP-inflator clean and well maintained

- try to get it serviced before you buy it

Computer / watch.

- are the batteries for the model still available

- can the protective cover/shield be replaced (if scratched)

- if a model that be synced with a laptop/PC/PDA, is the software and manual included

- if a model with "integrated gas", make sure the transmitter still works (with the computer itself !!)

- during the test-dive, compare it to another dive computer for accuracy. 10-30 cm difference in depth indication or 1 degree in temp difference is not an issue and quite common.

FINS.

INSTRUMENTS.

- compasses and gauges, check whether it's still accurate and not "just working"

Regulators.

- Get it serviced before you buy it. You'll know it will be AS GOOD AS NEW after it and that parts are still available for that model.

- are the hose ends (connectors) clean without "greenish deposits"
