FYBO 2002 - 900 mW of Blazing Power

This year I was assisted by KC7QCS, Geoff Billin, in my annual FYBO snow outing. Geoff skiied and I snowshoed in to the same location I'd used in 2001, a few miles from Elk River, ID. Together we put an 80 m dipole fed with ladder line about 60 feet up between two trees. Just for grins I chose to run 900 mW. Most of the radio equipment is the same as previous years as is the sled to get it all out in the snow. The operating pit is similar from one year to the next. This year it was a two holer. One for me and one for Geoff.

Geoff logged and took pictures and I operated on 20, 15, and 10 m for the 5 hours we were out in the snow. We covered the country with 34 QSOs and for the first time, I got into the 20 degree multiplier. It was only for the last few mintues that we were there as the sun went behind the trees and a chill set in. Until then the temps were in the 30s.
