There are many points to consider when crafting an assignment: Is the work feasible? Does it build upon what has been taught? Is it or should it be assessable? Last, but most definitely not least, is it relevant? Putting the relevance into a lesson isn't dissimilar from a parent trying to hide some vegetables inside a dessert (carrot cake, anyone?).

"Yes, you have to eat (practice, make, do) it; it's good for you!" Relevant assessments help improve a student's educational journey and give them a reason to treasure what they've learned; they can see that there is a purpose to what they have been doing.
