FAQs

Thanks to Fairy1 and Stephen Jackson for their help. If we've missed any, please let us know.

Q. Do we know why Steven was in the Henderson/Las Vegas area on December 13, 2009?

A. No, nothing that has been discovered in the investigation reveals any clues. He had no known connection to the SCA neighborhood where his car was found.

Q. What about the white SUV that we see pull up to the curb, as Steven walks by?

A. From someone who has seen the complete video: "The white SUV parks in front of a house, a woman gets out and goes into the house. Two women come back out, and the SUV drives away. About 40 minutes later, the SUV returns and drops off the woman she picked up and drives away. The woman picked up looks elderly."

Q. Was Steven's computer forensically searched for evidence of his activities? A. Yes. It was subpoenaed by LE. Nothing unusual or questionable was found on Steven's personal computer.

Q. Was Steven's vehicle forensically searched by LE?

A. No. LE was not initially involved in the case, and saw it as a "walkaway". The family searched the car and saw no signs of foul play. Since it was illegally parked, they had to move it - so drove it home. The family later had drug-sniffing dogs search the car, which turned up no signs of drugs.

Q. Do we know anything specific relating to Steven's travels in the days leading up to his disappearance?

A. Other than the visit to the family ranch of a former girlfriend, there does not seem to be any specific reason for his travels. If he met with anyone else, we do not know.

Q. Do we know if Steven has used his credit or debit cards or his Social Security number has shown any activity since he went missing?

A. We know his cell phone and credit/debit cards have not been used. It is our understanding his SS activity has been checked periodically and has shown no activity.

Q. Do we know if Steven had his passport with him when he went missing?

A. Steven's passport was found among his belongings at his residence in St. George, UT.

Q. Why do Steven's car and Steven's image appear to slow down in the surveillance video?

A. The lenses used on the surveillance system are "fisheye" lenses. The recordings give the impression of slowing down, which is misleading.

Q. Were any fliers from the business for which Steven was working found in the SCA neighborhood where his car was located?

A. No.

Q. What about GW, the last person to talk to Steven?

A. He has spent much time talking to Steven's family, law enforcement and has also traveled to help in searches. He is documented as having been back in St George, at the time Steven is seen walking away from his vehicle. See also timeline, for Dec 13th.

Q. What about his internet usage?

A. Steven had no internet connection at the rental home. His family said he used the computers at the Washington County Library. Per the library website, he'd have had to sign in to the system (whether on his own laptop via wifi or on one of their computers) with his library card.

Q. What websites did Steven visit, when he used the library's internet system?

A. Unknown. The library does not keep track of the websites visited by their users.

Q. I read that he was washing windows and putting up Christmas decorations. Has LE talked to everyone he worked for?

A. Some early reports did infer that he was doing that work. Subsequently, it was learned that his job entailed only passing out the advertising flyers for the window-washing business. He did not perform the work himself.

Q. What about him disappearing with Susan Powell, because they were both from Utah, disappeared a week apart and were the same religion?

A. There is verifiable information that discounts the Powell family theory:

1. Steven did live in the same town (West Valley City) but for only two months, in 2007.

2. His shared apartment was five miles east of the Powell home.

3. The distance means they didn't attend the same LDS meetinghose or interact in the same neighborhood.

4. He subsequently moved ten miles north (central SLC), further north to Bountiful and then 300+ miles south (St George).

5. St George and WVC LE have met. They found no calls, matching financials, interactions or any other connections in information confidential to each investigation.

6. Steven's passport was among his personal belongings and was not used to travel outside the US.

7. TSA/ticket records show Steven did not board any commercial flights.

8. When Steven drove to Ruby Valley, all of his stops were along I-15. WVC is miles west of I-15.

9. Steven's friends and family were aware of his social interactions. None were with Powell.

10. Powell was last seen on the evening of Dec 6th, 2009, at her WVC home. Steven's car was parked 441 miles away, on Dec 13th 2009 and remained there for several days.

11. Several people have independently confirmed where Steven was, on Dec 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th. His whereabouts are also confirmed by receipts, bank records, and official LDS church records.
