Keynote Speaker

Dr. Rhett Allain will give the talk at the Friday evening banquet.

Rhett Allain is an Associate Professor of Physics at Southeastern Louisiana University and the author of the Dot Physics blog at Wired Science Blogs. Allain is also the author of the National Geographic book Angry Birds Furious Forces and the ebook Just Enough Physics. Rhett Allain received a BS in physics from Benedictine University. He also has an MS in physics from the University of Alabama and a PhD in physics from North Carolina State University. In his spare time, he writes about the physics of things that really don't matter.

Dr. Allain's talk-

  • The Best Estimations and Models from Dot Physics
  • Many physics problems are just plain boring. Who really wants to solve the motion of a block sliding down a plane? What about some more interesting questions? Could a human power a helicopter? How difficult is it to build a railgun? Could I make a mole of salt crystals? All of these questions use some basic estimations along with the building of physics models to arrive at an answer. In this talk, I will share my favorite models and estimations from my blog.
