Modernism Project

Project Expectations of American Modernism Project

The Modernism Project will be completed using video to record your responses to each section of the project. Students will then upload each video segment to VoiceThread. Students will embed their VoiceThread into their blogs. Students will then leave productive comments on the VoiceThread of the assigned students in the class.

Using the Literature Book and additional credible, authoritative sources (no dictionary, encyclopedia, wikipedia-type sites, or spark-note/e-note-type sites), define all Aspects of American Modernism. Each student will sign up to analyze one short story and one poem to analyze. Students will post their assignments to the wiki page corresponding to the work of literature they are analyzing. Each student will evaluate, based on the two literary works analyzed, if society determined the course of the literature or if literature shaped society.

VoiceThreads will consist of a minimum of four videos: a video defining all aspects of American Modernism, one video for each literary work analyzed, and a video evaluating the relationship between the literary works and society. Each Video Essay will be structured with an introduction, body, and conclusion similar to a written essay. However, students may not read from notes while recording the videos - eye contact with the camera must be maintained. Each video may be created in scenes and edited together for a final cut.

All video essays should be completed by the end of the day of April 21, 2011. All VoiceThreads must be completed and posted to blogs no later than 10:00 p.m. on April 26, 2011. All comments must be posted to VoiceThreads by 3:04 p.m. on May 2.

A Works Cited List must be included in the blog entry in which the VoiceThread is embedded. All works referenced in the Works Cited must be given verbal attribution in the video as information from that source is being used.

Failure to use citations, failure to give verbal attribution to a source, using citations incorrectly, or claiming another’s work as one’s own is plagiarism and will result in a zero grade.

Projects that are missing components or not formatted properly will not be scored. Be sure to complete all components of the assignment. Late or incomplete reports will not be accepted.
