332 Post Modernism Portion of Final Exam:
The objective of this project is to answer
the following questions:

How
does religion fit into postmodernism?
·
How
is figurative language and form used in postmodernism?
·
How
does postmodernism address Nature?
·
How
does Human Nature (psychology) fit into postmodernism?
·
How
does postmodernism address the Government & Society?
·
What
is the American Dream of postmodernism?
·
What
are the characteristics of the postmodernist Hero?
·
Why
did Literature change throughout time?
Failure
to use citations, using citations incorrectly, or claiming another’s work as
one’s own is plagiarism and will result in a zero grade for that assignment
without chance of redoing the project.
Students will choose Post Modernism works and must get those works approved by Mr. Langley. Students will choose which assignments or combination of assignments to complete to achieve a total possible 100 points. Students may complete as many of the assignments as they wish, but the total number of points possible is 100.
Each student will complete two or more of the
following assignments to earn up to 100 points (A postmodernist work may only
be used once throughout the assignments - no duplications between students):
1.
Write
a formal research essay comparing/contrasting and analyzing two postmodernist works – 1)
Thoroughly show how each work of literature fits the definition of
Postmodernism. Answer the objective questions as applicable to
each literary work. 2) Show how each
writer’s life affected his/her work. 3)
Show how the work compares in style, character, theme, etc. to the other work. – Worth up to 50 points.
End Product of essay
Student
will turn in one digital file containing a 4 page expository research report
consisting of the following components in the following order:

Title
page – Title of report, student’s name, English 332, class, due
date of report
·
Outline
– correct outline format with thesis statement in the introduction
·
Report
(at least 4 pages) – double spaced, size 12 font, Times New Roman, standard
Microsoft Word margins (1.25” right and left margins – 1” top and bottom
margins)
·
Bibliography
page – correct bibliography entries in alphabetical order by the first letter
of the first word of each entry (no bullets or numbering)
2. Create a slideshow video presentation
using voiceovers comparing/contrasting and analyzing two postmodernist works – 1)
Thoroughly show how each work of literature fits the definition of
Postmodernism. Answer the objective questions as applicable to
each literary work. 2) Show how each
writer’s life affected his/her work. 3)
Show how the work compares in style, character, theme, etc. to the other work. The podcast is to be submitted in wmv
(Windows Media Player format). Attributions
to sources must be given as the material is mentioned and both parenthetical
citations and bibliography citations must be included on each slide a source is
used in the podcast. A printed out copy
of the Works Cited is to be turned in with the file. – Worth up to 50 points
3. Create a video presentation
podcast comparing/contrasting and analyzing two postmodernism works (video
recorded speech with slides as visual aids as necessary) – 1) Thoroughly show
how each work of literature fits the definition of Postmodernism. Answer the objective questions as applicable to each literary work. 2) Show how each writer’s life affected
his/her work. 3) Show how the work
compares in style, character, theme, etc. to the other work. The podcast is to be submitted in wmv
(Windows Media Player format). Attributions
to sources must be given as the material is mentioned and a Works Cited list
must be included as a credit slide in the podcast. A printed out copy of the Works Cited is to
be turned in with the file. – Worth up to 50 points
4. Write an original comic book
story that is in the postmodernist style.
Answer the objective
questions and submit in typed form with the comic book story (use the
reflection rubric). The storyline must
be approved by Mr. Langley. – Worth up to 25 points.
5. Create an original quality work
of art depicting one scene each of a postmodernist work. Answer the objective questions as applicable to each literary work and submit
in typed form (use the reflection rubric) with the works of art. – Worth up to
25 points
6. Write and record an original
quality song (words and music) depicting a postmodernist work. Submit the songs on cd or mp3 format. Answer the objective questions as applicable to each literary work and submit
in typed form (use the reflection rubric) with the songs. – Worth up to 25
points
Assignments that are missing
components or not formatted properly will not be scored.
Be sure to complete all components of the assignment(s). Late or incomplete assignments will not be
accepted. The final grade will be
tabulated on each student’s cumulative score out of 100 possible points. All
assignments for the semester exam must be turned in by 3:15 p.m. on May 25, 2010.
