Keda House has a modern Whirlpool Gas Dryer. It functions as well as the old GE gas dryer we used in Keda and continue to use in Main House, except that more repairs can be conveniently done from the front without accessing the back of the dryer.

About the Parts the motor ; Safe Service Instructions to remove parts
Service notes:
The motor has needed to be removed to clean, and reinstalled in both 2012 and 2014. We may have a dryer in E for the purchase of replacement. The challenge is getting the motor clamps back onto this old design of motor. In 2014 a motor model# 339635 replacement cost $100.31 + tax for Part#279827in stock at Sears. The old motor clamp system takes some force. Instead of hammering on with a flat screwdriver, I slammed the a 3/8" wide rock chisel with the hammer to snap them back on. Be prepared. The fan simply screws on and self tightens as the motor starts up. The lint chute has a filter that can hide under the lint. Don't dig it out (it costs $100+ for the chute assembly).

In this instance we replaced the motor and it works well.
In 2017 residents report that the dryer starts to irregularly shut off gas much more of the time than makes sense during each drying cycle. At first cleaning the lint traps and lint chutes seemed to correct the trouble. Such trouble is most commonly the gas valve regulator coils. BDS no longer sells coils separately and they claim the compatible $73.41 “Gas Valve Kit (03, 04, 05)” part # 12001348 is not something they intend to continue to stock. Even with a Halloween discount, the old style coils with loose wires to connect are not returnable and require more complete dryer disassembly to access at all. Swapping in a reliable GE model that is more similar to modern whirlpool dryers seems ever more the way to go. After a deep cleaning of everything by the burner motor, the old dryer seems to function fine again. The question is for how long, and are other users using the dryer different.
(03, 04, 05) refers to old individual part numbers 3303, 3304, 3305. We'd basically swap out the wires, but there are no returns on electrical parts, these coils can no longer be purchased individually, and even this kit is about to be phased out.
There is a conversion kit for the entire valve system, but the Conversion Kit available through BDS is not compatible with out Whirlpool Gas Dryer Model: CWI-1701WI. If it were, that requires disconnecting and reconnecting gas.

High temperature sealant is recommended for the felt gaskets between the lint chute and dryer & Duct. Maytag adhesive is $13.65 for 4oz tube from BDS Laundry as of 8-20-14. 220°F is a typical dryer temp. High temp. adhesives typically handle 300 to 400°F, so RTV sealant works fine to hold felt gaskets in place. The stuff dries out at the rate we use it, so lets use it up a bit faster.

E House Dryer Kenmore Model: 86407110. It is an electric version of the gas dryer at M-House. Trouble is that every time the heating elements die it is a ~300 repair that is very fiddly and laborious to DIY. At its best the electric dryer is not as good as gas considering the energy it requires.
Not only does this use a Whirlpool Lint Screen= Part#339392, SearsKenmore uses this same part number :)

GE Dryers from Keda and L-Houses remain very reliable. A new Whirlpool dryer was finally purchased to prove a point, that the problem is the lengths of ducts there and not the quality of age of the dryer. L-House had its dryer disconnected and removed while in survival mode in the face of a very hostile rooming house inspector while residents were already overwhelmed with the costs and hassles of trying to get a reliable roof and heating system. These wait their turns to serve in Main House or as a source of some compatible parts.
