The Harriet Tubman Medical Office today

The HTMO is an 1800s Victorian house in Oakland, California. It was nearly destroyed in the terrible 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake that collapsed freeway bridges in the Bay Area. In fact, the building was condemned due to earthquake damage (the house was leaning to one side), but Dr. and Mrs. Small persuaded the city to let them repair and rebuild it rather than destroy it. Today it has been brought completely up to modern earthquake safety codes.
