Zygonyx torridus

Recorded in 20 10km squares to the end of 2015.

This is a protected species but it is not uncommon in Malaga province. I have seen it on 46 occasions at 19 sites.

Dijkstra says the habitat is 'open, fast-flowing waters, particularly waterfalls and rapids' but I have seen it a variety of lotic sites which have some flow and some which are not particularly 'open'. My conclusion is that It's better to visit in July/August/September than in June if you want to see this dragonfly.
