'At this Court it was found and presented by the Homage that John Oakley of Little
Shelford in the County of Cambridge Cordwainer a Customary Tenant of the said Manor Did before
this Court and out of Court, to wit, the Sixteenth Day of March last past by the Rodd Surrender out

Notes for Henry Northfield:
The Manorial court records for Little Shelford, dated 19th Oct 1826 ( a copy of which is held on file ) state that Henry's will was dated 25th Jan 1826.
A transript of the will within the court record states as follows:- " I give and bequeath unto my Wife
ann Northfield the whole of my Copyhold estate in Little Shelford in the said County of Cambridge
consisting of my dwellinghouse a Barn or meeting let for religious worship and outbuildings as
workshop barn countinghouse and all and every other appurtenances therewith belonging with the
ground behind the said buildings which ground adjoins a Close belonging to Sir Charles Wall on
the one side and the Close belonging to Mrs Pemberton on the other Also I give and bequeath to
my Wife the said ann Northfield my allotment containing One acre one rood situate in Little
Shelford aforesaid"
Ann was asking the Manorial court to admit her tenant to the hereditaments and premises with the appurtenances as left to her in Henry's will. This was granted.

in the Year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fourteen Robert Gray of Twinstead in the
County of Essex Clerk a Customary Tenant of the said Manor ( in Consideration of Fifty Pounds to
him paid by Henry Northfield of Little Shelford aforesaid Carpenter / Did out of Court by the Rod
Surrender out of his hands into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the hands and
acceptance of Edward Randall Gentleman Steward of the said Manor according to the Custom
thereof All that Allottment or piece or parcel of Land or Ground situate in Little Shelford
aforesaid'______
'___Allottment or piece of Land or Ground containing One Acre and thirty Poles or thereabouts And all Ways Waters Watercourses Rights Privileges Hereditaments and

lawful Money of Great Britain to him in hand paid by Henry Northfield of Little Shelford aforesaid
Carpenter at or before the passing thereof the receipt whereof was thereby acknowledged ) by the

Surrender in writing bearing date the seventh day of February one thousand eight hundred and
twenty Whereby Henry Northfield of Little Shelford aforesaid Carpenter a customary tenant of the
said Manor Dod out of Court by the Rod Surrender out of his hands into the hands of the Lord of

Henry was also sworn in as part of the Homage for the Manorial Court on Thurs 22 Aug 1822, the court at which William Gall the elder hands over his proprerty to his son, also William Gall. See notes for William Gall d1828.
Notes for Ann Dennison:
Ann owned a meeting house let for religious worship. This was part of the estate left to her by her husband. The sources for this are Little Shelford Manorial court records and Ann's will, both of which are held on file. See 'notes' for Henry Northfield.

A court held on the 11th Nov 1846, 'Admission of C.B. Wale Esq out of Court under
Bargain & Sale from the Trustee under the Will of Ann Northfield deceased'..'The promises
confirmed in this Admission have been Enfranchised by Deed dated 13th April 1861'. This court dealt with the sale of the estate of Ann Northfield by her executor ' her son in law William Gall of Little Shelford in the County of Cambridge Ropemaker' to C. B Wale for the sum of ÂŁ140. This
document which is held on file gives a full description of the buildings and location of her estate in Little Shelford. The document also contains an abstract of the Indenture of the Bargain and sale referred to, dated 13th june 1846

Ann Northfield is described as 'of Little SHelford in the County of Cambridge Widow I give
and bequeath unto my Daughter Ann Dennison Northfield All my Household Furniture Plate Linen
China and other Effects situate in the House wherein I now dwell to and for her own absolute use
and benefit And as to all the rest residue and remainderof my Personal Estate of whatever nature

or description the same may consist of at the time of my decease and wheresoever situate I give and bequeath the same and every part thereof unto my Son in Law William Gall of Little Shelford aforesaid Rope Manufacturer'.
The property which consisted of 'All that Messuage or Tenement situate standing and
being in Little Shelford aforesaid together with the Two Cottages and Meeting House let for
religious Worship Stable Outbuildings Workshop Cow-house and Premises with the Orchard
Garden and Close adjoining thereto containing One Acre or thereabouts', was to be sold, and after the funeral expenses and other debts were settled William was to 'divide the residue or surplus of such Monies unto equally and amongst my Daughters Ann Dennison Northfield and Jane Sadler Gall (the wife of the said William Gall) and Son Robert Northfield in equal Shares'.
There was also a piece of land of about one acre and thirty poles in Little Shelford to which
Ann was admitted Tenant in Free under the will of her husband Henry Northfield at court in the
Manor of Little Shelford on 19th Feb 1827, a copy of which is held on file.
William was appointed sole executor of the will which was signed on the 19th June 1844. The document shows that Ann died on 31st Aug 1844 and the will was proved on 5th Oct 1844.

Notes for Jane Sadler Northfield:
At the time of her marriage to William, Jane's father had already passed away. Ann Northfield nee Dennison, was her Mother, it is from her that the 'Dennison' name came into the family.
Jane registered the death of her mother, Ann, on the 2nd of September 1844. No
cause of death was given, Ann was described as the widow of Henry Northfield.
Mentioned in the will of her Mother Ann Northfield as my daughter Jane Sadler Gall wife of William Gall.
She was left an equal share of the residue of the estate with Her sister Ann
Dennison Northfield and brother Robert Northfield. A copy of the will is held on file.

Mentioned in the will of William Gall as ' my dear wife Jane Sadler Gall '. she was
named as joint executor and trustee of the will with her son William Dennison Gall.
The 1891 census shows Jane Sadler ( the transcribe shows Pall, whilst the original
clearly shows Gall ) as the head of the house, a widow, aged 72 living in Church
Street, Little Shelford. She is shown as a rope and sack maker and as an employer.
In the house with her is Alice Louisa Gall, granddaughter aged 14, a scholar.
Jane was a witness at her brother Roberts marriage to Sarah Maris on the 7th Jan 1840 in Great Shelford.
