DVD

Get DVD image

    1. Go to http://centos.org/

    2. Download .iso image (or the one that suits you better).

    3. Burn image on DVD.

Installation

    1. Boot from DVD.

    2. Wait for the system to boot.

    3. Select default option by pressing <ENTER>.

    4. If you're sure your DVD is OK, then «Skip» media test, and start installation.

    5. Wait for initial graphical screen.

    6. Inside the installer:

      1. Hit the Next button.

      2. Select OS language, and confirm by hitting the Next button.

      3. Select proper keyboard, and confirm by hitting the Next button.

      4. Select the disk partitioning scheme.

      5. Configure the boot loader.

      6. Configure your network devices.

      7. Select appropriate time zone, and confirm by hitting the Next button.

      8. Enter root password (minimum 6 characters long entered twice for confirmation, as typing doesn't show), and carry on by hitting the Next button.

      9. Select the packages you want to install. Select «Customize now» if you want to detail your selection of packages to install. Proceed by hitting «Next». NOTE: If the installations aborts, and you selected the Extras Repository from CentOS, do not select this option the next installation attempt.

      10. Wait that the selected packages finishes being copied to disk from DVD.

      11. Remove the DVD.

      12. Hit the Reboot button.

      13. Wait for initial configuration.

Initial configuration

The first time that the system is booted (first boot), a configuration screen is shown.

    1. Hit the Forward button.

    2. Setup Firewall. Hit the Forward button.

    3. Select SELinux setting. Hit the Forward button.

    4. Kdump settings. Hit the Forward button.

    5. Adjust Date and Time. You should consider enabling the Network Time Protocol to keep system's clock synchronized. Hit the Forward button to proceed.

    6. Create a user. Enter Username, Full Name, Password and Confirmation. Hit the Forward button to proceed.

    7. Setup the sound card. Hit the Forward button.

    8. Install additional CD's, or hit Finish to proceed.

Used Disk Space

An almost full installation took around 4.5GiB disk space.
