Chapters 54-60

Chapter 54: The Moon

42 Who denied Our revelations, We grasped them with the grasp of the Mighty, the Powerful.

46 But the Hour (of doom) is their appointed tryst, and the Hour will be more wretched and more bitter (than their earthly failure).

47 The guilty are in error and madness.

48 On the day when they are dragged into the Fire upon their faces (it is said unto them): Feel the touch of hell.

51 And verily We have destroyed your fellows; but is there any that remembereth?

Chapter 55: The Beneficent

15 And the jinn (Evil spirits) did He create of smokeless fire.

41 The guilty will be known by their marks, and will be taken by the forelocks and the feet.

43-44 This is hell which the guilty deny. They go circling round between it and fierce, boiling water.

46 But for him who feareth the standing before his Lord there are two gardens.

48-52 Of spreading branches. With are two fountains flowing, every kind of fruit in pairs. Reclining upon couches lined with silk brocade, the fruit of both the gardens near to hand.

56 Therein are those women of modest gaze, whom neither man nor jinn will have touched before. (In beauty) like the jacynth and the coral-stone. {Virgins beautiful like gem stones are the prize in heaven.}

71 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

72 Fair ones, close-guarded in pavilions. {Beautiful women confined in pavilions awaiting the believers in heaven.}

74 Whom neither man nor jinn will have touched before them {Who are virgins yet to be touched by man or spirit.}

76 Reclining on green cushions and rich carpets of beauty.

Chapter 56: The Event

12 In gardens of delight;

15 On lined couches,

16 Reclining therein face to face.

17 Round about them shall go youths (boys) never altering in age

22 And there are fair ones {beautiful women} with wide, lovely eyes, Like unto hidden pearls,

35 We have created them a (new) creation

36 And made them virgins eternally, lovers, friends,

38 For those on the right hand (believers);

41 And those on the left hand (unbelievers)

42 In scorching wind and scalding water

43 And shadow of black smoke.

51 Ye, the error of the deniers,

52 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum {With fruit of molten brass.}

54 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water,

92 But if he is of the rejecters,

93 Then the welcome will be boiling water

94 And roasting at hell-fire.

Chapter 57: Iron

15 So this day no ransom can be taken from you nor from those who disbelieved. Your home is the Fire; that is your patron, and a hapless journey's end.

19 Those who disbelieve and deny Our revelations, they are owners of hell-fire.

Chapter 58: She That Disputeth

4 For disbelievers is a painful doom.

5 For disbelievers is a shameful doom

14 Hast thou not seen those who take for friends a folk with whom Allah is angry?

15 Allah hath prepared for them a dreadful doom.

16 They make a shelter of their oaths and turn (men) from the way of Allah; so theirs will be a shameful doom.

17 Their wealth and their children will avail them naught against Allah. Such are rightful owners of the Fire; they will abide therein.

20 Lo! those who oppose Allah and His messenger, they will be among the lowest.

22 Thou wilt not find folk who believe in Allah and the Last Day loving those who oppose Allah and His messenger, even though they be their fathers or their sons or their brethren. {You cannot love non-Muslims even your closest relative.}

Chapter 59: Exile

2-3 He it is Who hath caused those of the People of the Scripture who disbelieved and cast terror in their hearts, theirs in the Hereafter is the punishment of the Fire.

5 Whatsoever palm-trees ye cut down or left standing on their roots, it was by Allah's leave, in order that He might confound the evil-livers. {During the seige on the Banu Nadir tribe, Muhammad ordered the destruction of their date palm trees. This verse from Allah gave justification for destroying their crop.}

11 Tell their brethren who disbelieve among the Jews and Christians: that they verily are liars.

13 Disbelievers have a more awful fear in their bosoms for the believers than they do for Allah. That is because they are a folk who understand not.

16 (And the hypocrites are) on the likeness of the devil when he telleth man to disbelieve,

17 And the consequence for both will be that they are in the Fire, therein abiding. Such is the reward of evil-doers.

20 Not equal are the owners of the Fire and the owners of the Garden. The owners of the Garden, they are the victorious.

Chapter 60: She that is to be Examined

1 O ye who believe! Choose not My enemy and your enemy for allies. Do ye give them friendship when they disbelieve show them not friendship. Do ye show friendship unto them in secret? And whosoever doeth it among you, he verily hath strayed from the right way.

9 Allah forbiddeth you only those who warred against you on account of religion and have driven you out from your homes and helped to drive you out, that ye make friends of them. Whosoever maketh friends of them - (All) such are wrong- doers.

13 O ye who believe! Be not friendly with a folk with whom Allah is angry, (a folk) who have despaired of the Hereafter as the disbelievers despair of those who are in the graves.
