Chapters 17-22

Chapter 17: The Children of Israel

8 We have appointed hell a dungeon for the disbelievers.

10 Those who believe not in the Hereafter, for them We have prepared a painful doom.

16 And when We would destroy a township we annihilate it with complete annihilation

17 How many generations have We destroyed since Noah!

18 We have appointed for him hell; he will endure the heat thereof, condemned, rejected.

45 And when thou recitest the Qur'an we place between thee and those who believe not in the Hereafter a hidden barrier;

46 And We place upon their hearts veils lest they should understand it, and in their ears a deafness;

58 There is not a township but We shall destroy it ere the Day of Resurrection, or punish it with dire punishment.

97 As for him whom He sendeth astray, for them thou wilt find no protecting friends beside Him, and We shall assemble them on the Day of Resurrection on their faces, blind, dumb and deaf; their habitation will be hell; whenever it abateth, We increase the flame for them.

98 That is their reward because they disbelieved Our revelations.

Chapter 18: The Cave

15 And who doth greater wrong than he who inventeth a lie concerning Allah?

29 We have prepared for disbelievers Fire. Its tent encloseth them. If they ask for showers, they will be showered with water like to molten lead which burneth the faces. Calamitous the drink and ill the resting-place!

53 And the guilty behold the Fire and know that they are about to fall therein, and they find no way of escape thence.

57 And who doth greater wrong than he who hath been reminded of the revelations of his Lord, yet turneth away from them on their hearts We have placed coverings so that they understand not, and in their ears a deafness. And though thou call them to the guidance, in that case they can never be led aright.

58 Theirs is an appointed term from which they will find no escape.

59 And (all) those townships! We destroyed them when they did wrong, and We appointed a fixed time for their destruction.

86 Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it set in a spring of murky water: Near it he found a People.

90 Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had provided no covering protection against the sun

100 On that day we shall present hell to the disbelievers, plain to view,

102 We have prepared hell as a welcome for the disbelievers.

106 That is their reward: hell, because they disbelieved, and made a jest of Our revelations and Our messengers.

Chapter 19: Mary

69 Then We shall pluck out from every sect whichever of them was most stubborn in rebellion to the Beneficent.

70 And surely We are best aware of those most worthy to be burned therein.

77 Hast thou seen him who disbelieveth in Our revelations? We shall record that which he saith and prolong for him a span of torment.

83 Seest thou not that We have set the devils on the disbelievers to confound them with confusion?

98 And how many a generation before them have We destroyed!

Chapter 20: Ta Ha

127 Thus do We reward him who is prodigal and believeth not the revelations of his Lord; and verily the doom of the Hereafter will be sterner and more lasting.

128 Is it not a guidance for them (to know) how many a generation We destroyed before them,

Chapter 21: The Prophets

6 Not a township believed of those which We destroyed before them (though We sent them portents): would they then believe?

15 And this their crying ceased not till We made them as reaped corn, extinct (killed).

39 If those who disbelieved but knew the time when they will not be able to drive off the fire from their faces and from their backs, and they will not be helped!

40 Nay, but it will come upon them unawares so that it will stupefy them, and they will be unable to repel it, neither will they be reprieved.

43 Have they gods who can shield them from us {Muslims}? They cannot help themselves nor can they be defended from us.

44 We gave these and their fathers ease until life grew long for them. Allah gradually reduces the land controlled by the unbelievers. Can they then be the victors?

77 Lo! they were folk of evil, therefore did We drown them all.

97 behold them, staring wide (in terror), the eyes of those who disbelieve! ye (idolaters) and that which ye worship beside Allah are fuel of hell.

99 If these had been gods they would not have come thither, but all will abide therein (Hell).

Chapter 22: The Pilgrimage

1 O mankind! Fear your Lord. Lo! the earthquake of the Hour (of Doom) is a tremendous thing.

2 On the day when ye behold it, every nursing mother will forget her nursling and every pregnant one will be delivered of her burden, and thou (Muhammad) wilt see mankind as drunken, yet they will not be drunken, but the Doom of Allah will be strong (upon them).

3 Among mankind is he who disputeth concerning Allah. The devil mislead him and will guide him to the punishment of the Flame.

9 Turning away in pride to beguile (men) from the way of Allah. For him in this world is ignominy, and on the Day of Resurrection We make him taste the doom of burning.

15 Whoso is wont to think (through envy) that Allah will not give him (Muhammad) victory in the world and the Hereafter (and is enraged at the thought of his victory), let him stretch a rope up to the roof (of his dwelling), and let him hang himself.

19 But as for those who disbelieve, garments of fire will be cut out for them; boiling fluid will be poured down on their heads,

20 Whereby that which is in their bellies, and their skins too, will be melted;

21-22 And for them are hooked rods of iron. Whenever, in their anguish, they would go forth from thence they are driven back therein and (it is said unto them): Taste the doom of burning.

25 Lo! those who disbelieve and bar (men) from the way of Allah him We shall cause to taste a painful doom.

51 While those who strive to thwart Our revelations, such are rightful owners of the Fire.

57 While those who disbelieved and denied Our revelations, for them will be a shameful doom.

67 Unto each nation have We given sacred rites, but know you follow the right guidance. So summon others unto thy Lord (Allah).

72 And when Our revelations are recited unto them, thou knowest the denial in the faces of those who disbelieve; The Fire! Allah hath promised it for those who disbelieve. A hapless journey's end!
