SSBM

Newbies

If you're unfamiliar with advanced techniques in Super Smash Bros. Melee such as shffl's, l-cancelling, wavedashing, jc'ed dashgrabs, you can read up about them at Smashboards. Perhaps start here and here.

SSBM seems to simultaneously have both a wonderful community as well as one of the worst communities ever. I do not want to have arguments with you about which characters are the best, what the best way to play is, why pro player XXX is overrated, how much I suck, or anything else to that effect.

My Videos

All of my SSBM videos are available on YouTube as one organized playlist, (roughly) ordered by date:

The Crayola Crew

The "Crayola Crew" (aka CC) isn't a real SSBM crew per se...think of it more as a group of "trusted friends" whom I like to play SSBM with. We don't get to play together that often--just once in a while, and even then, only the "core three" (Green, Blue, and Red) are really active. The concept is cool though--each of us has a color designation, and whenever we play, we select our costumes according to that color. We also use our color as our tag when we're playing--and as an added quirk, we use the japanese "ヨ" in place of an E, so that Green becomes "GRヨN". None of us are really that great--no tourney experience or anything--but we still have great fun playing friendlies with each other, and some of us have actually improved quite a bit over the years.

Note: When playing SCCM, we use a lower-case ョ, as in "GRョN". When we're drunk or slightly tipsy, we use a hiragana よ instead, so that would be "GRよN" or "GRょN".

Green

a.k.a DDRKirby(ISQ)

This is me. I main Fox, but I pretty much like to play around with almost every character to some degree...though, I tend to hate playing as Link, and there's some other characters like Samus and Peach that I don't really understand yet. I'm alright, but definitely not tournament material by any means. I have a good grasp of most of the game, but because I don't have much experience outside of the Crayola Crew, I'm not that great at certain things, such as DI to escape combos. My Fox is also not actually quite that fast or technical as far as Foxes go, though that's only to be expected considering my skill level. I also tend to derp around a lot, but that's not really a bad thing when you only play friendlies anyways. =)

Blue

a.k.a. Chaud1024, Acuity1024

The other "core" member of the Crayola Crew, and the one that I've played with most. Blue mains Marth, but has also tossed around some other characters, such as Link, Falcon, and G&W. As far as playstyle goes, there's nothing too remarkable or unremarkable about his playstyle, though I feel like since I've played with him so often I've gotten pretty good at reading him sometimes.

Red

a.k.a. Red7z7

The third "primary color" of our group. Red mains G&W and plays him exclusively, which proves to be a bit of an uphill battle--despite being really cool, G&W does have a tough time with certain matchups. Red isn't entirely technically proficient when it comes to advanced techs, but he still appreciates the beauty of a good wavedash or waveland. I also have a hilarious tendency to run into his fsmashes for some reason -_-;

Yellow

a.k.a. soutouryuui

Yellow mains Ness, which I believe already says something about her playstyle. She's not too well-versed on all the intricacies and deep knowledge of the game, but she's still fun to play with. She plays Brawl more nowadays, but is still always up for a round of Melee--or better yet, SCCM. She brings a lot of low-tier pride to the table as well.

White

a.k.a. KrnDragonMaster

White is long, long retired from the world of Smash, but back in the old days when the Crayola Crew was first starting up he was one of the core members. He hasn't played for a long, long time, but I remember him pulling some nice spotdodges every once in a while back when he did. He's depicted as maining Falco, but also played Doc, among other characters.

Pink

a.k.a. lilsw33tbby

Pink is kind of a "bonus member" of the Crayola Crew, and also kind of a mythical legendary in-joke of sorts. Her =actual= skill is nothing remarkable, and she was never actually quite -that- into SSBM. She definitely didn't know any advanced techs or anything, but she's developed a reputation (mainly between me and Red) of just having a weird freakish "instinct" that in our minds makes her godly. It's all just a big joke, of course...but we DO remember some times back in SSBM when she would somehow inexplicably grab us out of our attacks and pull off things that made us O_o; even though her actual play wasn't good. We kind of "assigned" Peach as a main for her and roped her in, just so we could have a stereotypical female member. She's only ever played with us once or twice, though, so mostly her status is that of a myth...

Brawl

The Crayola Crew had a brief switch over to playing SSBB back when it came out. It was fun, but in the end we switched back over to Melee, since Brawl took away a lot of what we loved from SSBM. It was still fun while it lasted, though!

For curiosity's sake, here's what characters the Crayola Crew used in Brawl:

Green - Pokemon Trainer, G&W, Pikachu

Blue - Toon Link, Pit, Ike

Red - G&W, ROB

White - Zelda, King Dedede

Pink - Peach

Yellow - Ness

SCCM

See the main SCCM page for info on the Super Crayola Crew Mod to Melee.

Other Notable Vids

I've really seen way too many awesome SSBM vids to even begin to enumerate here, but here's a small sampling of classic ones that I like:

Evolution

The classic combo video collection. Everyone knows DBR for their awesome combo vids, and this is them at their best.

MoFo(Fox) vs. PCChris(Fox)

Fox dittos rock.

Shiz(Falco) vs. M2K(Marth) Revival of Melee Losers Finals 4

The most epic comeback ever.

DireVulcan(G&W) vs. MoFo(Fox) - 02

An older match. Just showing you DireVulcan with G&W goodness, but also MoFo with insanely fast dashdancing that is useless but wow-so-sexy.

Old Banners

Below is some old artwork that I used to use for Crayola Crew stuff.

Aaand here's one just for fun:
