Roy Fonda sent an email advising of the passing of John Lamszus on September 12th. You can see John's obit >>>.

I worked with John for years when he was District One's Budget Officer. John was a very good guy.

[ Traffic Control ! ]

Saw a very cool temporary traffic control signal today. I live on a 2 lane State maintained highway. IDOT's 'plan' is to widen it to 5 lanes with a bike path. As of February, they indicate no additional ROW will be needed. But there's the 2 lane bridge over Beaver Creek about 400 feet east of my house. IDOT has been investigating the old bridge several times recently. Today, they had one lane closed AND no flagers! They are using a portable traffic control system. The system even has a preemption option, which is good on Bus Rte 20 because of the ambulance traffic. Info on one company is here >>>.

[ 911 Thoughts in 3 Parts ]

1. The horrors of 9/11 is our 'live thru moments' For young folks today, it's simply another history lesson, but parents & grandparents can still tell the story & horror

2. Today tho, the 2977 immediate deaths on 911 is overshadowed & surpassed EVERY 2 DAYS currently in America - from Covid. About 1500 deaths DAILY !

Too many Americans, who never fully learned about nor understand democracy, forgot that with FREEDOM they scream about comes DUTY. The duty to work & help protect other AMERICANS thru their behavior & choices. The #CovidIdiots. Read the Freedom column below.

3. Also different than 911 is that the terrorists wanting to destroy OUR democracy are internal not only in foreign countries. Some insurrectionists & fascists are even in OUR Congress. We are under attack daily from nutballs & politicians: local, statewide & national. George W Bush's comments are also worth the read.

The challenges are here. If were real lucky, WE get to decide if democracy continues. The next entry 'Freedom' provides a great perspective on Freedom.

There's a publishing company that prints Northwest Quarterly. Bout 1/2 thick, a mix of ads, good info & images. There's edition for McHenry & Lake county areas & Kane/Dekalb.

They also publish a great Northwest Weekly, that shows up in the mail by magic. The editor, Janine Pumilia, always has a great timely reminder / perspective. Here's last week's on Freedom. Y'all can search for the Northwest Quarterly. And for the Northwest Weekly.

[ Keep In Touch Luncheon ]

It's ON for 2021 ! Here's a note from Linda Petersen:

"Hello Fellow IDOT Retiree, This year's Keep in Touch Luncheon, the 28th annual, will be held Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Chandler's, at the Schaumburg Golf Course, 401 N. Roselle Rd. Schaumburg, IL. Doors to the Pebble Beach Room will open at 11:00 a.m. for socializing with lunch served at Noon. Cost will be approximately $30.00 per person (cash). A cash bar will be available before and after lunch. Attire is casual.

Barb Baird, SERS Trustee, will be our speaker, followed by Q&A. It will be nice to get together with old friends and coworkers once again.

Please e-mail Linda Petersen at llp2020.mail@ gmail.com no later than Friday, September 24th if you will be attending. If you have special dietary needs, let her know. This is the only notice you will receive so please respond as soon as possible. As a reminder, if you need to cancel (after saying you would attend) be sure to do it by September 24th or you will be expected to pay for the meal that was ordered.
