Con Nats

Con Nats has been actively writing short stories and short plays since 1996 and has been developing his skills as a director through Short and Sweet, Crash Test Drama and Actors Anonymous PlayTime.. He has won short story awards for The Rocks, and Just Me and his first short play was The Gate Keeper in 10xl0 production in 2001. His next play, The Waiting Room was directed by Peter Sumner for 2003's Short and Sweet. His first full length play, Prodigal John, was part of Carnivale’s Rough, Read and Raw public reading (2004) and the Antipodes Festival’s moved reading programs (2005) and was shortlisted by Company B Belvoir and The Darlinghurst Theatre. In 2005, Twister featured in Drive Time, at the Crypt Theatre, Balmain, while a radio version, Stuck In A Twist, was developed for ABC Radio's Night Air production. Flights of Fancy, which Con directed in it s final week, featured in Short and Sweet's 2006 program, winning third place in the People's Choice for its week and a short film version was shown on TVS. He also directed Container, written by Craig Goddard. In 2007, Swinger, was equal third in the judge's vote in Short and Sweet.Haircuts was the first time Con directed his own script from the beginning, and it made the 2009 Movie Extra Gala Final, running second by a point, and delivered Best Actor for Adam Hatz. Haircuts was taken to the Edinburgh Festival in August 2009 as part of the Tasty Treats program, and was also taken to Melbourne for their Short and Sweet Festival in November 2010, again running second by a point. Since then Con has had been involved in Short and Sweet Festivals in Brisbane with You Pissed In My Bed and Singapore (Just A Date) and has been involved in over 10 Short + Sweet Festivals. Con also produced, wrote and directed Starry Comet Night for the 2010 Sydney Fringe Festival.

Involvement in Crash Test Drama

Con’s involvement in Crash Test was to take The Brothers Grey to the 2009 Final and 2010 Wildcards Final. In 2011, Just A Date, directed by James Balian, won the July CTD final.
