Countdown to Bicentennial

November 11, 2018 marked the 100th Anniversary of the Armistice which ended World War I (AKA: The Great War, The War to end all Wars)

The Selective Service Act was enacted on May 18, 1817; this act would be canceled at the end of the war, November 11, 1918. Guidelines of the act required all United States males between the ages of 21 - 30 to register for potential military service. (In August 1918, the ages were expanded from 18 - 45, this was to bar further volunteers.)

This act affected both men who were born in Collins and had moved elsewhere as well as men residing in Collins. Below are some draft records of men who had been born in Collins, but had moved elsewhere (Click on the document to view all information):

We will continue to share information on registered potential military personal from WWI next week. In the meantime, if you have an ancestor you believe may have registered for WWI and would like a copy of their registration card, email us at collinsregional@roadrunner.com if we do not have a copy we will be happy to search one out for you!
