East Kent 12 May

BSDRA “East Kent” Team racing Championship, Saturday 12 May 2012.

Sailed in bright sunshine but with an inconsistent wind (mainly F2, N, but shifting with lulls) at the Westbere lakes, near Canterbury, 12 teams sailed in two mini leagues to reach the gold, silver and bronze fleet divisions. Unfortunately conditions did not permit sufficient time to sail full inter division races; final results were achieved through semi-final and final knockout races.

In the two leagues five teams won 4/5 races: Haileybury, Kent Schools Sailing Association, King’s A, MCS Oxford, RGS Guildford.

The semi-final and final races were then sailed in parallel sequence to keep interest for each division going until the end. Division results:

Gold division: 1st, RGS Guildford; 2nd, MCS Oxford, King’s A, Haileybury.

Silver division: 1st, Wellington A; KSSA, King’s B, Tonbridge.

Bronze division: 1st, Winchester; Wellington B, Merchant Taylors A, MT B.

All teams are to be congratulated upon their sailing and excellent attitude on and off the water. An umpire commented on how “penalties were taken (in the Finals) without a murmur. The calls were made in good faith (as ever) but it takes a certain maturity and discipline to be properly accepting”.

Many Congratulations to RGS on their fine and well deserved victory, to MCS for their part in the close and exciting final set of three races, to the silver and bronze division winners, and to all who took part. Many thanks also to team managers, umpires and helpers, upon whose generous assistance the event depended.
