Small Garden Cart

Small Carden Cart to handle simple hauling and carrying tasks

This garden cart is a scaled down version of larger commercially built garden carts which usually use bicycle wheels and tires. This one uses 12 inch wheels from a salvaged lawn mower. The frame is made from scrap angle iron that was left over from other projects. The handle is a section of 3/4 inch black iron pipe that was also left over from an earlier project.

This cart is 18 inches wide inside the tires, and 24 inches long in the box area.

Bends in the handle were made by notching the inside of each bend area and simply pulling the handle into shape, then welding the bent sections back together.

The box was built using 3/4 inch thick MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard). Again, surplus material left over from an earlier project.

The cart performed very well when loaded with approximately 100 pounds of brick.

Considering the short time required to build this cart, and that it was built from all surplus & salvage material, it has been a very worthwhile effort.

This is the initial weld up of frame, handle, and axle & wheels.

And here it is painted and with a box.

We used the cart to move a bunch of bricks that were placed around flower beds as landscaping barriers. The cart works very well.
