Dance Entropy
Company Biography Dance Entropy is a professional modern dance company that tours and teaches both domestically and abroad. Dance Entropy abstracts the potential chaos of the body and creates order through expressive movement reflecting the world within which we live. The word “Entropy” refers to the tendency towards disorder in a social system and chaos in motion. Dance Entropy supports Valerie Green’s vision as Artistic Director where by she creates stage and site-specific work. The company uses creation, performance, and teaching to link dance and the people of a particular community Artistic Director Biography Valerie Green created Dance Entropy in 1998, adding a permanent company home in 2005 called Green Space in LIC Queens. Green Space serves the dance community by providing an affordable and welcoming environment for rehearsals, classes, and performances. To date Ms. Green has created 21 dances and 6 evening length works. Her choreography has been seen in NYC at La Mama, Joyce Soho, Movement Research, St. Mark's Church, Chashama, Mulberry St. Theater’s, Dance Now @ Dance Theater Workshop, Tribeca Performing Arts Center, University Settlement, the 92nd St. Y, Hunter College, Context, The Flea, Cunningham Studio, Dixon Place, Hudson Guild Theater, Queens Theater in the Park, LaGuardia Performing Art Center, and Jamaica Performing Arts Center. Her work has also toured to various venues throughout the US. Internationally she has taught and performed in Canada, France, Italy, Greece, Russia, India, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, and Albania. As a guest artist, Valerie has received commissions from Texas State University, BITEF Theater in Belgrade, Serbia, and Theater Alternativa in Tirana, Albania. Secret of the Girl of the Flowers is a metaphor for transformation, while suggesting a non-linear expression of a life cycle, aging, and the disruption of order amidst an installation of hundreds of flowers. The girl of the flowers breaks the rules of nature by disobeying conventional behavior, and changing her forms. Executed through cunning sensuality, juxtaposing a dose of ugliness alongside beauty and unpleasant seductions, all sourced from the deep recesses of the character's psyche.
