RAW MATTERS: ADaPT Fest Vienna is the continuation of the SB-ADaPT Festival established in 2011 by SonneBlauma Danscz Theatre. During the festival Austrian artist Regina Picker connected with the producers of the 2011 Festival (the Kellys). Regina approached them with the idea of coming to Vienna to share a show. One thing led top another and before they knew it a 2012 Festival emerged.
The Festival host for 2012 is Raw Matters.
RAW-MATTERS: ADAPT Fest Wien ist die Fortsetzung des SB-ADAPT-Festival welches im Jahr 2011 in Santa Barbara stattfand, gegründet durch SonneBlauma Danscz Theater. Während des Festivals lernte die österreichische Künstlerin Regina Picker die ProduzentInnen des 2011 Festival (die Kellys) kennen. Regina schlug ihnen vor, nach Wien zu kommen, um eine Show zu teilen. Eins ergab das nächste und bevor sie es wussten, war ein Festival 2012entstanden.
Für das Festival 2012 sind Raw Matters und Palais Kabelwerk Gastgeber.
About Raw Matters
In Vienna there are not many opportunities for dancers and choreographers to present their work. Three artists created a framework for it. Raw Matters - "raw parts" or the "Raw is important" - is this context. A platform where dancers, choreographers and performers can display their pieces. Even if they are not quite ready yet. Just raw.
Behind it there is a concept that sounds almost too simple to be new. But that's what it is. Raw Matters is a platform for dance, performance and choreography. Artists have the opportunity to present their works at "rough danceevenings". This is not necessarily a question of presenting a fully developed concept. The artists can show in the Raw Matter Performance evenings pieces or excerpts which are just emerging. The presentation itself becomes an exciting part of the development process of a dance piece, the performance gains by itself on quality. The performance takes place in a value-free space - without critics, without jury, without any stipulations.
The dancers and choreographers can gain valuable experience, get feedback from the audience and the artists. Another contributing factor is the Raw Matters Culinary, which is already a fixed part of the performance evenings and hepls for an informal exchange of ideas at the buffet. An exchange that the Austrian dance scene really urgently needs.
The location itself is part of the concept. Therefore Raw Matters brings contemporary dance at different venues - places where it`s not usual to dance. For example, to Schikaneder. In a cozy, relaxed atmosphere dance happens. And polished.
Organizers Nanina Kotlowski & Deborah Hazler work in the field of dance and performance, and even wanted to contribute something to lift their work on stage - while also helping other artists to do just that.
The result: Raw Matters.
Über Raw Matters
Es gibt in Wien nicht gerade viele Möglichkeiten für TänzerInnen und ChoreographInnen, ihre Arbeiten zu präsentieren. Drei Künstlerinnen haben dafür einen Rahmen geschaffen. Raw Matters – „rohe Stücke“ bzw. „das Rohe ist wichtig“ – ist dieser Rahmen. Eine Plattform, auf der TänzerInnen, PerformerInnen und ChoreographInnen ihre Stücke zeigen können. Auch wenn sie noch nicht ganz fertig sind. Eben roh.
Dahinter steckt ein Konzept, das fast zu einfach klingt, um neu zu sein. Doch genau das ist es. Raw Matters ist eine Plattform für Tanz, Performance und Choreographie. Künstler und Künstlerinnen haben die Möglichkeit, an „ungeschliffenen Tanzabenden“ ihre Arbeit zu präsentieren. Dabei geht es nicht unbedingt darum, ein fertig ausgearbeitetes Konzept zu präsentieren. Die KünstlerInnen können bei den Raw Matters Performance-Abenden genauso zeigen, was gerade im Entstehen ist. Die Vorstellung selbst wird so Teil des spannenden Entstehungsprozesses eines Tanzstückes, das durch die Performance selbst wieder an Qualität gewinnt. Die Performance findet im wertfreien Raum statt – ohne Kritiker, ohne Jury, ohne Vorgaben.
Die TänzerInnen und ChoreographInnen sammeln wertvolle Erfahrungen, bekommen Feedback vom Publikum und von den KünstlerInnen. Dazu trägt auch das Raw Matters Kulinarium bei, das bereits fixer Bestandteil der Performance-Abende ist und zum ungezwungenen Austausch von Ideen am Buffet dient. Ein Austausch, den die österreichische Tanz-Szene dringend braucht.
Die Location selbst ist Teil des Konzeptes. So bringt Raw Matters den zeitgenössischen Tanz an unterschiedliche Locations – dorthin, wo sonst nicht unbedingt getanzt wird. So etwa ins Schikaneder. In gemütlicher, entspannter Atmosphäre wird getanzt. Und geschliffen.
Hinter Raw Matters stecken Nanina Kotlowski und Deborah Hazler. Sie arbeiten im Bereich Tanz und Performance und wollten selbst etwas dazu beitragen, ihre Arbeit auf die Bühne zu heben – gleichzeitig aber auch anderen KünstlerInnen genau dabei zu helfen. Das Ergebnis: Raw Matters
