Formative Assessments are graded and then given a weight of x1, x2, or x3 (Teacher Discretion)

The purpose for playing checks are to ensure that students practicing their instruments outside of the music classroom. This is considered a common expectation for any musician, and one which cannot otherwise be enforced. Students will be carefully walked through the recording & submission process at the start of the school year.

Playing checks are assigned (almost) weekly. Assignments will be announced on Monday, and are due by 11:59:59pm on that Friday. Students may request extensions - either in person or via email - for their playing checks under qualifying circumstances.

Concert Performances & Playing Tests

Summative Assessments are graded and then given a weight of x10

All music performances that the Freeport HS Concert Band participates in are mandatory.

Performance attendance will be a heavily graded aspect of the class. Unlike a written test, performances cannot be made up or reproduced. Additionally, the band is a group activity where students must rehearse and perform in a collaborative fashion.

Habits of Work

Cell phones are not permitted during any class period unless given direct permission from that teacher. Breaking the cell phone policy during class time will result in detention with a teacher and the phone held in the office for the remainder of the day.
