Autumn Term

Last half term our topics were: Population in geography and Evolution in Science. We looked at journey stories to space and wrote non-chronological reports about imaginary planets in our english lessons. In maths we worked hard to understand new strategies; long division and algebra.

This half term our topics are: Industrial Revelution in history and Electricity in science. We are writing tales of fear and informal letters in english. Fractions, decimals and percentages are our focus in mathematics.

Spring Term

This half term our topics are: Civil Rights in History and the heart and circulation in Science. We are looking at a range of different genres of writing and using them to produce our own written pieces as evidence for our SATs assessessments. In maths we focusing on mastering arithmetic strategies with fortnightly clinics to focus on specific areas that need further teaching and practice.

After half term our topics are: Globalisation - A geography unit studying world migration and trade and its impact on sustainability. In science we are looking at the impact of hydration, diet, exercise and drugs on the body. We will continuing to work towards the SATs in our maths and english sessions.

Summer Term


The first few weeks will be busy preparing for the Y6 SATs tests. We will be revising areas of mathematics and having regular arithmetic clinics. We will also be having daily reading comprehension sessions and grammar lessons.  In the afternoons we are starting our new History topic - 20th Century Conflict - identifying the reasons for both World War one and two. Art this half term is linked to our history topic and we will be designing shadow puppets to create a short performance based on a war scene. In science we are exploring the properties of light and how we see and In PE we are learning to use and apply cricket skills.


We begin the second half of the summer term, with many of us going to Mersea Outdoors for our Y6 residential. We are looking forward to spending time together and taking part in many adventurous activities.We will be having weekly swimming lessons at Park Drive health club, attending a live theatre workshop to explore the issue of 'County Lines' and will experience a World War simulator. Lessons will be focused on our local area - taking part in geographical fieldwork and designing and making a quiche using local, seasonal ingredients. Finally we will be attending transistion days to our respective seconday schools and celebrating our time at Maldon Primary in our Year 6 leavers asembly and Prom.
