Autumn Term

In the first half of the Autumn term, we learnt about Energy and Sustainability around the world, including how the cities of Freiberg and Curitiba are at the forefront of renewable energy sources. In Science, we have been investigating different forces: gravity, air resistance, water resistance and friction.

This half term, we are becoming historians and delving into the rich and vibrant history of the Benin Kingdom. We are also extremely excited to begin our Science topic: Earth and Space, in which we will be exploring night and day, different moon phases and describing the movement of the Earth and Moon in relation to the Sun.

Spring Term

This half term, we are learning all about Biomes in Geography. We have already identified the 6 main biomes on Earth and are currently looking at what threats are facing biomes around the world.

For English, we are learning to write a defeating the monster story, an explanation text and a diary entry. We have had a great time listening to some spooky stories and identifying the tools we need to build tension and suspense in our writing. Our Maths lessons have a focus on fractions, decimals and angles this half term. We have also been practising these Maths skills in our Maths meetings each week so that our learning can really become embedded.

Summer Term

This half term, Turner class have been learning all about Changing Britain between 1960 and the present day. We have enjoyed finding out about how protests, strikes and boycotts have all helped to increase the rights of black and asian people, disabled people and members of the LGBTQ+ community. We have also consolidated our knowledge of evaporation and condensation in our science lessons through our Water Cycle topic. We have produced some fantastic newspaper articles all about Ramadan in RE and can explain how the 5 pillars of Islam are important to Muslims around the world.

Summer 2

This term we are looking forward to investigating Slums around the world and understanding how they are affecting people’s quality of life. We have also completed our first fair-test investigation in Science linked to the properties of materials and subsequent changes in them. We successfully used thermometers and recorded our results in a line graph. In Maths we are learning all about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, how to calculate volume and ending the year by applying our knowledge to a range of mathematical problems in our problem solving unit of work. Also we look forward to being able to ‘wow’ you all with our new Spanish vocabulary linked to clothes! Adiós!
