First Steps- The Reception Year

We believe that Early Years education should be as practical as possible and our EYFS setting has an ethos of learning through play.

We use construction areas to promote maths skills and all of our zones aim to develop our communication and language skills. We prefer to develop our writing skills by adding mark making opportunities into our play.

The EYFS area provides a range of opportunities to ensure children become well rounded learners. Daily experiences include woodworking, gardening, gross and fine motor skills and creative play in our sand, water and mud kitchen areas. Our plants and vegetable gardens are maintained by the pupils developing an understanding of growth and healthy food choices. Both our indoor and outdoor classroom is set into zones to allow the pupils to access a range of curriculum areas on a daily basis.
