JANUARY

NASA SPACE GRANT SCHOLARSHIP- For seniors who wish to major in math, science, or engineering at the U of W. Awards are from $1,000 to $5,500 per year, for up to four years. Criteria: Academic achievement, test scores, essays, and recommendations.

WASHINGTON CROSSING FOUNDATION- Has several scholarships available for students planning a career in government service. Student must submit essay(s) to win between $500 and $1,000. Apply online at: www.gwcf.org

OIL CAN HENRY SCHOLARSHIP-$88,000 in scholarships to high school students who plan to attend a two-year or four-year college or vocational technical school. Apply online at: www.oilcanhenrys.com/scholarship.

FEBRUARY

AMERICAN INDIAN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP- For financially needy students with close ties to an American Indian tribe who will be enrolled full-time at a public or independent college or university next year. Criteria: Three letters of recommendation, transcript, and statement of intent to return to service in an American Indian community. COLONEL’S SCHOLARS- Up to $20,000 per year for tuition, fees, books, and room and board. Criteria: Must have GPA of 2.75 or above, must be US citizen or permanent resident. Contact: www.kfcscholars.org.

SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS- Six, $4,000 scholarships open to Spokane seniors who plan to enter an engineering college next fall. Criteria: Minimum SAT levels are 600 for math, and 580 for the average of the new critical reading and writing tests. GPA of 3.0 or higher and student must submit an essay on, “My interest in Engineering.” The application and essay must be typed, and signed. SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MILITARY CHILDREN PROGRAM- Dependents of military may apply for a scholarship to a university or four-year college. Individual awards anticipated at $1,500. Criteria: GPA of 3.0 or above. Additional information is available at: http://www.militaryscholar.org/.

THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY- Has a scholarship program to give cancer survivors the opportunity to pursue their post-secondary education from a university, community college, or vocational technical school. Criteria: Complete application and checklist.

Spokane Interstate Fair Ambassador Scholarship-young men and women are invited to apply for this $500 scholarship. You must be available to work during the Spokane Interstate Fair in September. Information and applications at www.spokanecounty.org/fair/sif/general_information/ambassadors.aspx

ASSOCIATION FOR COMPUTER PROFESSIONALS IN EDUCATION- Has allocated $10,000 for scholarships of up to $2,500 each, for graduating seniors in Oregon and Washington, who are actively involved in the use of technology and are planning to pursue studies in a technology-related field. WA State School Retirees/PEMCO Robert J Handy-seniors interested in entering a teaching profession are invited to apply at www.wssra.org A variety of scholarships will be awarded.

LEADERSHIP 1000 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM- $5,000 per year for four years for a maximum of $20,000 to Washington students who plan to attend a four-year college or university. Student must file a FAFSA (financial aid form) and have a family income of less than $70,000 for a family of four. Student must have a GPA of 2.75. INLAND NORTHWEST COMMUNITY FOUNDATION (INCF) - INCF manages more than 30 scholarship funds, helping students from the Inland Northwest attend colleges, universities and vocational schools. SAMMY- GOT MILK? - 2010 SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR- Twenty-five winners will receive a $7,500 college scholarship, and an invitation to Orlando, Florida to attend the SAMMY weekend. Five Criteria: Academic performance, athletic excellence, leadership, community service, and milk experience essay. Apply online at: bodybymilk.com.

WASHINGTON STATE EMPLOYEES CREDIT UNION- Twenty, $2,000 scholarships to students attending a four-year college and seven, $1,000 scholarships to students seeking a two-year or vocational certificate. Applicants must be a member of WSECU. Applications will be available at: www.wsecu.org.

Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation Scholarships-New this year-scholarship application must be submitted online. Various scholarships will be awarded (only one application required) to seniors planning to attend CCS next fall. You must have a 2.0+ cumulative GPA. Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted. You must complete the entire application in one setting and will not be notified of missing or incomplete documents. OFFICERS’ SPOUSES’ CLUB- For students who are dependents of military on: active duty, remote tour, legally retired, or deceased. Student must have GPA of 3.5, essay, test scores, and transcript.

Great Spokane Substance Abuse Council's (GSSAC) 2011 Harry Kennedy Memorial Scholarship- $1,000 scholarship for senior planning to continue their education. Students must submit an essay highlighting why s/he has chosen to be drug free. NORTHWEST FOUNDATION FOR MAXILLOFACIAL RESEARCH AND EDUCATION- Scholarships of $250-$2,500 for tuition, fees, books, and room and board, are available to students who enroll in medical and/or dental undergraduate programs. Criteria: Transcript, three letters of recommendation, essay, and budget.

Spokane Interstate Fair Ambassador Competition Deadline: December

The Fair Ambassador Program (established in 2000) is open to all youth (male and female). The candidates need to be at least a junior in High School up to 20 years of age. The 2016 competition was held on April 27. Winners will receive a $500 scholarship to the educational institution of their choice.

21st Century Educator Scholarship Deadline: March

Open to high school seniors intending to pursue a career in education with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and proven leadership through a wide variety of activities. Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Deadline: June

American Civil Liberties Union Youth Activitist Scholarship Deadline: November

15 high school seniors will receive $7000 and the opportunity to attend the Youth Activist Institute training program in New York. Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to civil liberties, attend college next fall and have a 3.0+ cumulative GPA.

American Indian Endowed Scholarship (AIES)

ASHRAE Inland Empire Chapter Scholarship Deadline: May

The American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers Inland Empire Chapter is offering a $1000 college scholarship to a qualified graduating senior. The applicant must be enrolled in an ABET accredited mechanical engineering program. See Deb for application.

Career Guidance Counselors Association Scholarship Deadline: April

Four $500 scholarships will be awarded to qualified graduating seniors. You must have completed an outstanding High School and Beyond Plan and plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college full-time beginning fall 2010. Application is available on the WOIS website, www.wois.org or in the Career Center.

Careers That Work Scholarship Deadline: June

Casey Family Scholars Program Deadline: March

Chase Youth Award Deadline: January

Know a young person who deserves to be noticed for creativity, demonstrating leadership and caring or doing the right thing in spite of obstacles. Gates Millennium Scholars Program Deadline: January

This program was established to provide outstanding, low income African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline they choose. Criteria includes: U. S. citizen or legal resident; 3.3+ GPA or GED; first-time college enrollee; nomination by a teacher or counselor; demonstrated leadership through participation in community service, extra curricular or other activities and meet federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria (FAFSA).
