TTR-challenge-fanfic

(Fanfic of The Thunder Rolls for a guess who wrote the story challenge for class.)

A loud crash of thunder shook the windows of the motel room waking Pete and Jenny. They untangled themselves from the covers and Pete threw on his pants from the day before and went to look out the window.

"Aww, come back to bed, Pete."

"I have to go, sweetheart. There's a storm coming in from the east. If I don't head home now, I'll be stuck here all night."

"It's already 3:00, she can wait a few more hours. Stay with me."

"It's that late already? Liz is going to kill me." Pete rushed around trying to find all his clothes.

"I don't want to be alone in the storm."

"I'm sorry, I have to." Another loud crash of thunder set off a car alarm down the street.

"It sounds nasty out there. You don't want to drive in that, honey."

"Maybe she'll just believe the storm delayed me. I'll tell her I had no reception and the bridge was closed, it always is in weather like this."

A flash of lightning lit up the room as Jenny wrapped a sheet around herself and rushed to give him a hug and kiss goodbye. "If you have to leave, the go. Stay safe, baby." Rain pounded the roof and windows.

"I will, Jenny, I will. I'll see you next Thursday?"

"Of course!" She hugged him close and gave him another kiss.

Pete drove home. The streets were empty, and the rain was almost blinding. The bridge was closed, and he had to drive the long way around. The radio was nearly overtaken with static, but as "In another's eyes, I could do no wrong" filtered through, he hastily turned it off.

It was already past 3:30 when he pulled in, and the storm was getting worse by the minute. Liz rushed to meet him in her nightgown, soaked through with rain. "Where on earth have you been, Peter?" she asked, nearly drowned out by the thunder.

"The bridge was out," he began.

She hugged him close then suddenly pulled back. The smell of Jenny's perfume lingered around him.
