Bloom's Taxonomy is a hierarchical framework used to classify educational objectives and learning outcomes into levels of complexity and specificity. It was developed by Benjamin Bloom in the 1950's and has been widely used in education to guide curriculum development, lesson planning, and assessment. Bloom's Taxonomy consists of six levels of cognitive skills, arranged in a hierarchy from lower-order thinking skills to higher-order thinking skills.
The Rigor/Relevance framework is a tool developed by the Center for Model Schools to examine and improve curriculum, instruction, and assessment, and is based on the two dimensions of higher standards and student achievement. Those two dimensions are the Knowledge Taxonomy based on Bloom's Taxonomy and the Application Model.
In essence, this framework helps teachers understand how to engage students in deeper learning. It’s not enough to just know facts; students need to be able to apply information to solve complex problems.
