Mr. Janiga
Written by Julie Shuber
For the majority of the second semester, Mr. Janiga student taught under Mr. Aaron. Mr. Janiga currently attends the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg and will graduate in May. Julie Shuber had the opportunity to talk to him during his last few days with Yough. He is getting his degree in secondary education with his history degree. Julie asked him what made him choose his major; he responded that he “always liked history” and his “mom taught 2nd grade”, so teaching has always been a big part of his life. School is definitely a big part of Mr. Jangia’s life, since he said he spends most of his time doing school work when asked about his favorite hobbies. “When I’m not doing school work, I like to play video games and watch football and hockey,” Mr. Janiga said. He has been student teaching at Yough since about when the new year began and will end the first week of April. He said that his favorite part of teaching so far is seeing students finally understand the material. “I love that ‘light bulb’ moment,” he expressed. Most college students look to find a job after they graduate, Mr. Janiga is no different. He stated his plans after he finishes up student teaching is to hunt for teaching jobs and work on his master’s degree. As Mr. Janiga experiences his final days student teaching at Yough, Julie asked him what his biggest takeaway from our school was. He responded that he liked being able to relate to the students. He explained that being close enough in age to the students helps when trying to connect with them through different jokes and references. The students of Mr. Aaron’s classes will miss Mr. Janiga as he departs from Yough. Everyone wishes him the best of luck with his future!
Mr. Benedek
Written by Hannah Baker
Among our student teachers here at Yough High School, is Mr. Benedek, who was completing his student-teaching experience in Mr. Ansell’s room. Hannah Baker asked him a few questions about his experience here and his background. Baker asked Mr. Benedek, “What inspired you to become a teacher?” He replied, “My dad is a teacher at Thomas Jefferson, so I decided to follow in his footsteps and become a teacher myself.” She also asked, “What is your favorite part of being here at Yough?” He said, “The students are a lot of fun to be around, and this school has a great environment.” Lastly, she asked him what college he was from, to which he replied, “Penn West University”. Thank you for your time, Mr. Benedek, and we hope that you enjoyed your time here at Yough.
