Common functional groups

• O-H Broad typically 3700 – 3000 cm⁻¹

• C=O Sharp typically 1750 – 1650 cm⁻¹

• N-H Reasonably sharp typically 3500 – 3300 cm⁻¹

• NO₂ Sharp 1570 – 1510 and 1370 – 1300 cm⁻¹

• C-H: Complex as there are many C-H bonds in most organic molecules, peaks around 3000 cm⁻¹ are very common.
