The YMCA of Central Ohio requires all employees and high-access volunteers to complete foundational abuse prevention training prior to having access to consumers. The YMCA of Central Ohio also requires all employees and high-access volunteers to complete abuse prevention training annually and requires all supervisors to complete training in effective supervision practices related to abuse risk management.
The YMCA of Central Ohio utilizes many avenues to ensure that training in abuse prevention is a part of the culture of being a YMCA employee or program volunteer. It is imperative that we continue to nudge all employees to keep it at the forefront of their minds as we serve our communities.
New Hire Orientation - Our new hire orientation has a large training that all employees re required to take prior to the start of their employment.
Volunteer Matters - All high access volunteers are required to review and sign off on the YMCA's abuse prevention policies and procedures during their application process with Volunteer Matters.
OutMatch - Low access volunteers are required to review and sign off on all abuse prevention policies and procedures during their application process.
Redwoods Institute: It is common for the YMCA to utilize the Redwoods Institute to provide trainings for team members during Five Days of Action and during alternate intervals, as well.
Resident, Day Camp, and Child Care Staff - All resident and day camp staff receive specialized training related to abuse prevention during their training time prior to the start of their role.
Hiring Supervisors - Hiring supervisors receive training in our abuse prevention policies and procedures during the five days of action and during their new hire orientation.
