In “How to Speak Dolphin,” Adam is autistic and loves dolphins. The main conflict/ plot in the story is that Lily, Adam’s sister, makes friends with a girl named Zoe who loves dolphins as well and she wants to free Nori (the dolphin) from her pen. However, Don (the stepfather) wants Nori to stay so Adam has a dolphin to help him be happy. Zoe gets Lily to like dolphins as well.
Something that I really liked in the story is how Zoe, Lily, and Adam really love dolphins. Zoe and Lily also wanted to release Nori and tried to suggest to Don that he should let Nori go and how it wasn’t great for the dolphins to keep them cooped up in a pen. I really liked how it put the representation of an autistic person in the story. Even though he couldn’t communicate in the same way that we recognize, he still could communicate in other ways.
This story made me a little sad because we found out a sad turn of events. This story is really near and dear to my heart because I really like dolphins and it reminds me of when my dog died.
The confusing part in this story was when the book was saying some medical terms that weren’t explained very well.
I recommend this book for schools because you can get some knowledge about dolphins. Even though it’s fiction, there’s still a little bit of non-fiction in the book. This book is also good for schools because it has autistic and blind representation. I would rate this book 5/5 stars.
