Akata Warrior, by Nnedi Okorafor is a fantasy novel.
The length of the audiobook is 12 hours and 43 minutes.
Akata Warrior was published October 3rd, 2017. It’s the second book in the series, with a third coming soon!
I would say this is appropriate for teens and older.
You can read about the first book in the series, Akata Witch, here.
“Flawed, imperfect creatures! That's what we both are, oga! That's what we ALL are!”
― Nnedi Okorafor, Who Fears Death
The Akata series is about a girl named Sunny who discovers that she is a leopard person and a free agent. The books are set in Africa, and Sunny lives a secret life where she needs to go to another school as well as her human school. She has to keep her Juju a secret from non-leopard people Including her family.
In the second book, Akata Warrior, Sunny goes on all sorts of adventures with her friends to complete missions set by her mentor called Sugar Cream. During her adventures, Sunny discover's new Juju leading up to one big event.
Akata Warrior is a book series. It's the second book in its series, the first one being Akata Witch. There should be a third book coming out because at the end of Akata Warrior it says "Coming soon… look for the third installment of Sunny’s adventures, In which Sunny and her friends have some unfinished business with a Greek god-like spider, and that spider so magnificent it would spike fear into Anansi.”
My Opinion
I am usually quite picky about the books that I read. But I really enjoyed the Akata book series. It's a fun and engaging story for my age group. And on the plus side I get to learn about a different culture, like what they eat and do for fun.
My Recommendation
This book series is for teens and older because there is some gore. In the first book there were “reports” of people wandering around without eyes and some with limbs missing.
It would make sense if you read Akata Witch first so that you understand certain vocabulary introduced from the first book, see the characters mature and follow as they recite stories from earlier adventures.
