Many participants will be interested in trying out the Learning Design software systems on Day 2. We strongly encourage all participants to bring along learning designs materials from their own practice. It is much easier and more authentic to implement real designs from your own experience using your own materials, rather than improvising on the day.
The London Knowledge Lab is located at 23-29 Emerald Street, London WC1N 3QS
Please consult the Lab's contact page for travel information.
Airports and travel
Getting to the London Knowledge Lab will probably require a train journey (taxis are not recommended due to cost and traffic). Most tickets can be purchased at the airport on the day of travel. "Return" journeys (which include travel to London and back to the airport) are usually the same price or slightly cheaper than purchasing separate tickets. You can also get discounts by buying your tickets in advance, but the savings is small. The following table shows the approximate travel times and costs:
It is important to note that sometimes, discount airlines will sell tickets that depart from suburban airports (LGW, STN, LTN) very early in the morning. Make sure that if you buy such a ticket that you will actually be able to get to the airport with enough time to check in and get through security. For example, a flight departing from suburban London airports at 7am will require you to leave central London around 5:00 am, at the latest. It is very possible that there will be no convenient trains when you wish to leave! You might have to take a bus (slower) or a taxi (expensive). Check train times to be sure you won't get into this predicament.
When you get to Central London from the airport, you will arrive at one of the main overground train stations and will need to switch to the London Underground. Plan an additional 20-30 minutes to get to LKL from the overground train station. London City airport is on the London Underground only. There is no express train service. Heathrow airport is also on the London Underground (Piccadilly Line) if you do not want to use the express train service, but the journey time is about 1 hour. To plan your journey on the London Underground, see the journey planner. For information and tickets for overground trains, see http://www.thetrainline.com.
When booking your flight, you should plan 15-20 minutes of additional time to get through border control and customs.
