Completion Timeline: Students can begin earning hours starting July 1st after finishing Grade 8 and have until the end of Grade 12 to complete the 40-hour graduation requirement.
Approved "Help Your Neighbors" Activities: Includes providing services to seniors or those with mobility issues, such as raking, weeding, shoveling (manually), shopping, visiting, reading, or preparing meals.
Approved "Help Your Community" Activities: Includes volunteering at hospitals, libraries, food banks, seniors' homes, or animal welfare agencies.
Youth & Sports Support: Students may tutor younger students, assist with community sports teams, or take on leadership roles in youth groups.
Approved "Help Your School" Activities: Includes assisting with sports teams, library organization, special needs support, or facilitating school events like orientation nights.
Eligible Timing: Volunteer work must be performed outside of scheduled class hours, such as during lunch breaks, evenings, weekends, or summer holidays.
Ineligible Activities (Paid Work): Any activity performed for a commercial "for-profit" business or work that would normally be done by a paid employee is not eligible.
Ineligible Activities (Safety & Tools): Students may not operate motor vehicles, power tools (such as lawnmowers or snow blowers), or use scaffolding.
Prohibited Tasks: Activities involving the handling of medication, medical procedures, banking, jewelry, or other high-value items are ineligible.
Documentation Requirements: Students must record the organization’s contact information, specific duties performed, the number of hours, and start/end dates.
Mandatory Verifications: Every record requires a verification signature from the student, their parent/guardian, and the activity supervisor.
Principal Approval: If an activity is not on the pre-approved list, it must be approved by the Principal or a designate.
