Purpose:
To explore a variety of mark-making with the brush tool, along with a variety of techniques to create a digital landscape painting;
To practice using the tablet and stylus with Adobe Photoshop;
To create works of art that use different subjects, themes, symbols, and images;
Demonstrate increasing level of competence in use in the elements of art and principle of design to create a digital landscape (line, color, shape, form, texture; unity, variety, contrast, movement, emphasis, and balance).
The tools that I found most helpful while creating my painting were the warp tool, blur and smudge tools, and the costume brushes, specifically the ones that I made myself. The warp tool was helpful because it assisted greatly in creating the reflection on the pond. The blur and smudge tools were helpful because they helped create the moon, the trees in the background, and the reflection of the moon on the water. And finally the costume brush of the trees made the process of making the trees in the background not only way faster but more realistic.
Some obstacles that I encountered were making the reflection on the water look convincing, making the moose specifically the antlers. Making the water look convincing with a nice reflection was hard, but I was able to overcome this challenge by using the wave distort feature, then warping it in a specific way until it looked right. Making the antlers was also a challenge because the ones that I made didn’t look real enough to me. A way that I overcame this challenge was through trying many different antler combinations from several different reference photos. This took a lot of time, but I think it looks a lot better now than it did in the past.
