I think that looking back on all my assignments, my pinch pots definitely stand out the most to me. I love the different shapes and patterns, and most of all the designs and hard work put into these pots. Not only did they turn out much better than I had expected, but I also pick up so much knowledge about glazing and shaping my pinch pots. If you were to ask me at the beginning of this class to make a pinch pot, it would be filled with cracks and misshaped. And this was exactly what happened in the beginning. However, I redid all my pinch pots and tried multiple times and helped educate myself in the sense that I spent time and watched videos to help myself create a pinch pot that showed I was improving, and something that I was genuinely proud of. In the end, I think the glazes look marvelous, and these pots make me very happy and just go to show that this was a big stepping stone in ceramics for me. Overall, I feel that my clay ability and just my glazing, in general, have just improved so incredibly much, and I am so glad that we worked on these pots.
When first coming into this class, if you were to ask me to work with clay, I would have not been able to even come close to making mugs and coil pots, let alone pinch pots. Over the past months, I have gained so much knowledge with clay making, managing my time, working with designs, patterns, etc., glazing, and clay techniques that I know will come in handy when taking ceramics 2 in the future (junior year), and will just help my art ability in general. I will want to continue working with clay because it is something I find very soothing and fun to do, and so when I make projects such as pinch pots and such at home, I know that I have the capability to do this and work advanced with clay, and just take all the skills I have to learn and use them to help me with these projects that are important and good to have in everyday life.
My goals this semester is to explore and enhance my ability with clay. I have always found clay interesting, and after taking art last semester, I found out that I was so much more capable of enhancing my ability with it, so that is my goal with ceramics, to become better and create some fantastic designs/projects.
