Planning: Pictures up above.
Purpose: Make a slab mug that demonstrates connecting slabs securely, creating and attaching a handle, and illustrates a personal narrative. This should be done through the handle, textures, added-on features and/or glazing.
Reflection: The background/story behind my mug is a time when my dog and I went to go watch the sunrise (just the two of us) on the New Jersey beach shore. There were only a couple of surfers, so I put surfboards there, there were a few dolphins, so I glazed on dolphins to represent this. But the most memorable thing was the sunrise. The sunrise was remarkable, with the reflection gleaming off of the water, and creating a watercolor-like picture. There is always lots of little fish in the water, and so I drew them to show this, and tried to get all of the colors such as orange, pink, red, and yellow to truly capture and help give a representation of what the sunrise looked like, because it was truly such a beautiful and unforgettable morning. I wanted to show this on my mug, so that I would get to reminisce all the good memories from the beautiful sunrise.
I think that I would go back and maybe mess around some more with the surfing aspect of it, because I think that was part of the magical part of this sunrise, seeing people surf into the beautiful vivid sun, and just watching the sun come up and sitting on the beach with my French Bulldog, while we watched the dolphins, surfers, and the beautiful sun come up. I think that I could have glazed on some surfers instead of just drawing surfboards on the side, and of course, there are always little details that can be fixed to get my mug to be perfectly clear, but for the most part, I worked hard on it and tried my best to capture a memory that was so special to me. I was proud of the finished product, because even if there are little aspects that can be improved (and even though it has yet to be glazed) I liked my designs and loved the idea/glaze work.
