I told a story about a trip I had on my boat. I went out to my dock on Moshier Island, an inner island in Casco Bay. I caught some mackerel on my way back and had a fire out there. I applied a cutout slab of clay in the shape of Moshier Island and pasted it near the top of my mug. I also applied another slab that was a side view of the island. I then carved out the tops of the waves and fired the mug. I then glazed in many different spots creating waves, sky, a pattern on the handle that mackerel have on their spines, grass, fire, and a sandy yellow for the inside.Â
If I could do this project again, I would make many changes. The first thing that I would change is to make a smaller mug. I made a very large mug, which caused my attention to detail to falter in some places, like my handle and borders between glazes. The other thing I could change is to spend more time shaping the mug. I rushed through it, which caused an uneven shape.
Purpose: Make a slab mug that demonstrates connecting slabs securely, creating and attaching a handle, and illustrates a personal narrative. This should be done through the handle, textures, added-on features and/or glazing.
