Purpose:
To understand and demonstrate how to make a good movie poster;
To visually capture people’s attention through a movie poster;
To understand how designers create suspense and a particular mood in a poster design.
Designers can create suspense or set a mood in a poster by using dramatic lighting, bold colors, and carefully choosing how objects are presented. My everyday object was a letter, and it became extraordinary when I used it for two different genres, romance, and horror. For the romance poster, I designed a love letter with soft, light colors to create a gentle and heartfelt feel. In contrast, for the horror poster, I transformed the letters into those of a stalker, using a black background, blood effects, and darker tones to make it look eerie and unsettling.
My object was a letter, the letter plays a central role in the plot of both movies. In the romance, it represents love and hope, with soft colors and tender design making it sentimental. In the horror, the letter shifts to a tool of obsession and fear, with dark colors, bloodstains, and an ominous imagery turing it into a symbol of danger. These designs transform the letter and make it extraordinary by showing it adaptability in expressing both love and fear.
