Library Instruction Programs. The Library Instruction Program aims to help students develop their skills and ability to locate, evaluate, use, and create information effectively and efficiently. It also aims to help them become independent and lifelong learners. These are Library Orientation, library skills, Online Database User Training, and Information Literacy Skills Sessions, online or in person. Additionally, faculty and staff members are oriented to the library’s resources and services to support their teaching and research needs, ensuring a collaborative and informed academic environment.
Library Tour and Instruction. The library offers orientation sessions and guided tours tailored for visiting users and researchers.
Library In-Service Training. This comprehensive program equips Xavier University Basic Education (XU BE) librarians and staff with essential library skills and knowledge. The training covers key areas such as collection development, cataloging, reference services, and the latest information technology tools, ensuring participants are well-prepared to support an efficient, modern library environment.
Book Club. It is a dynamic and inclusive community of student readers who come together to share their love for books and literature. Organized by the Grade School and Junior High School Libraries, the club provides a space where students can explore a wide variety of genres, discover new authors, and engage in meaningful discussions about the themes, characters, and ideas found in their selected readings. Through regular meetings, the Book Club encourages critical thinking, active listening, and respectful dialogue, helping students develop their communication and comprehension skills. Members also have opportunities to participate in exciting activities such as book-themed games, author talks, creative projects, and reading challenges.
Brown Bag Session. It is an informal, lunchtime gathering designed to encourage open sharing of knowledge, insights, and experiences among BE library staff. Held in a relaxed setting, this session provides an opportunity for team members to connect beyond their daily tasks, fostering a culture of continuous learning and mutual support. By engaging in meaningful conversations during break time, staff members are able to strengthen professional relationships, build trust, and enhance collaboration within the team. Whether discussing new ideas, best practices, or personal reflections, the Brown Bag Session promotes a sense of community and collective growth within the library workforce.
Library Engagement Activities. The BE libraries implement a series of monthly thematic engagement programs to foster a vibrant reading culture and promote lifelong learning. Each month features a unique theme aligned with national celebrations, academic priorities, or current social issues, serving as a creative platform to connect students, faculty, and the wider school community with the library’s diverse resources and services. Activities include book exhibits, interactive displays, reading challenges, film viewings, trivia games, guest talks, and hands-on workshops that reflect the month’s focus. These programs are designed not only to encourage reading and information literacy but also to support holistic student development by integrating the arts, culture, science, and values education into engaging, library-based experiences.
Book Donation Program. The Basic Education (BE) Libraries of Xavier University will initiate the Book Donation Program to share valuable resources with partner schools and community organizations. Through this program, the BE libraries donate selected books to promote literacy, support educational development, and extend the reach of learning materials beyond the campus.
