During the second school term, some CSE teachers started the project: HOW ARE WE CONNECTED TO THE STARS?, which is the frame project for our task 1 CLIL lessons we are explaining here. For this project, we had the invaluable collaboration of some teachers of the CSE staff team; Núria Rierola, biology teacher and Toni Breganciano, technology teacher, together with CSE arts and language teacher, who also are members of the GEP-1 leadership team; Mar Saura and Sandra Terradellas.
We introduced the new cooperative project to the CSE-1 students. We launched some challenges related to the universe to be solved, and we also gave the students some ideas on what will be working on throughout the project. By this means, we could focus on the topic, the challenges, the objectives, and the methodology we used to carry on the mentioned project. We created a Google Site to show the information, to set the guidelines, the competencies to work and to be used as a digital resource of information. The intention was to create a motivating and a cosmic atmosphere to engage our students to the project, but also to make clear the objectives of it. When we first explained the methodology and basically the language to interact, some students went into panic. The use of English as a communicative language was a big challenge for some of our 1st of ESO students, so the teachers tried to convey a message of confidence and calm, by explaining to them that we were not looking for a perfection in their spoken productions but an effort in the use of English language to communicate in class. Of course, Catalan or Spanish could be used as well.
