Specialized Units

Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is responsible for conducting in-depth investigations into crimes such as theft, homicide, robbery, assault, and fraud. Detectives within the division gather evidence, interview witnesses, and work closely with forensic experts to build strong cases for prosecution and ensure justice is served. 

Special Investigations Unit (SIU) handles complex or sensitive cases that often require specialized expertise, such as narcotics, and organized crime. This unit conducts covert operations, surveillance, and high-level investigations that go beyond the scope of routine police work. 

Crimes Against Children Unit is dedicated to investigating offenses involving child victims, including physical and sexual abuse, exploitation, abduction, and neglect. Detectives in this unit work closely with child protection services, forensic interviewers, and medical professionals to ensure the safety of children and bring offenders to justice with sensitivity and care. 

Traffic Unit is the department’s specialized unit that focuses solely on traffic enforcement, accident investigation and commercial vehicle enforcement. All of the personnel assigned to the Traffic Unit receive specialized, in-depth training into accident investigation and reconstruction. 

Wylie School Resource Officers (SRO) are law enforcement officer assigned to work in schools, providing security, fostering positive relationships with students, and promoting a safe learning environment. SROs educate students on topics like bullying, drug prevention, and conflict resolution, while also responding to any criminal activity or emergencies on school grounds. 

Warrant Officer is responsible for serving municipal warrants and will assist judges by ensuring proper conduct during proceedings, escorting prisoners to and from court, and managing the entry and exit of individuals. Warrant Officers also help enforce courtroom rules and provide safety during trials.

Wylie SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) team is a highly trained unit within a police department that responds to high-risk situations, such as hostage rescues, armed standoffs, and high risk warrants on dangerous criminal suspects. SWAT officers are equipped with specialized weapons, gear, and tactics to handle situations that exceed the capabilities of regular patrol officers, prioritizing safety and the resolution of incidents with minimal harm. 

Community Relations Officer focuses on building and maintaining positive relationships between the police department and the community they serve. Their primary role is to improve trust, cooperation, and communication between the public and the police, fostering a safer and more connected community. 

Wylie Honor Guard team is responsible for representing the department at ceremonial events, such as funerals for fallen officers, public memorials, parades, and official ceremonies. They uphold the traditions of law enforcement by performing flag ceremonies, presenting colors, and showing respect during significant occasions, ensuring the department honors its values, fallen officers, and community with dignity and pride. 

Wylie Bike Patrol Unit uses bicycles to patrol designated areas, providing a visible and accessible law enforcement presence in neighborhoods, parks, and community events. Officers on bike patrol can quickly navigate through traffic, engage directly with the community, enforce traffic laws, and respond to incidents, all while fostering a positive relationships with the public due to their mobility and visibility. 

Wylie Drone Team uses unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to assist in various law enforcement operations. They provide aerial surveillance for crime scenes, search and rescue missions, traffic accident investigations, and crowd control at large events. Drones help gather real-time intelligence, increase safety for officers, and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of police responses. 

Wylie Fitness Team is responsible for promoting and maintaining the physical health and fitness of officers. They design and implement training programs, provide fitness assessments, and encourage a healthy lifestyle to ensure officers are physically prepared for the demands of law enforcement work. This team may also lead wellness initiatives to reduce stress and improve overall officer performance and well-being. 

Wylie Crime Scene Unit is responsible for collecting, preserving, and analyzing evidence at crime scenes. This unit processes the scene by documenting it through photographs, sketches, and measurements, and collecting physical evidence such as fingerprints, DNA, weapons, and other items. They work closely with forensic experts to analyze evidence and assist in investigations to help solve crimes and support prosecutions in court. 

Wylie Negotiators are responsible for managing and resolving high-stress situations, such as hostage standoffs, barricaded suspects, or suicidal individuals, through peaceful dialogue. Trained negotiators use communication techniques to de-escalate tensions, build rapport with suspects, and work toward a safe resolution without the use of force. The unit plays a critical role in protecting lives and resolving potentially dangerous situations calmly and effectively. 

Digital Investigators specializes in examining electronic devices and digital evidence to assist in criminal investigations. They recover and analyze data from computers, smartphones, tablets, and other digital storage devices to uncover crucial information such as emails, messages, browsing history, and photos/videos. Their work helps in solving crimes all types of crimes like cybercrime, assault, narcotics cases, identity theft, and other offenses where digital evidence is key to identifying suspects and building cases for prosecution.
