In 2017-18 Walnut High School implemented the PLTW—Computer Science Program offering all four courses, Computer Science Essentials (9th Grade), PLTW-AP Computer Science Principles (10th Grade), PLTW-AP Computer Science A (11th) and the capstone course Cybersecurity (12th Grade). With all courses being UC/CSU a-g approved.

PLTW Computer Science courses engage students in real-world activities such as creating online art portals, app building and using automation to process and analyze DNA sequence data. These projects challenge students to think critically and help show how intricately Computer Science is woven into our society.

PLTW AP Computer Science Principles and PLTW AP Computer Science A align to the AP curriculum standards and the AP CSP assessment and AP CS A course. Students will be able to take the AP CSP and AP CS A Exams. With the exception of Computer Science Essentials, all other courses take a national end-of-course assessment.
