Reading is the golden thread that runs through everything we do at Warrington & Vale Royal College. Our staff and students are exposed to a huge selection of reading material in all different genres.
We run an Accelerated Reading Scheme, a Reading Ahead Challenge, book swaps, a reading corner and we invest a lot of time promoting reading and the rewards that come with reading. Our students demonstrate the benefits in their written, oral and classwork and we hope continue their reading journey long after.
Last year the college was awarded a Gold Award by The Reading Agency for our participation and success in Reading Ahead and we hope to build on that this year.
Follow #wherereadinghappens to keep up with the latest news on our literacy campaign.
In the LRC, there are a number of books and resources which are aimed at Teenagers and Young Adults which contain quality information which can help support you on a wide range of issues.
There are books around issues such as issues around Mental Health and Life Pressures, to help with exams and how you can report any bullying at the college.
These resources will be kept on one bookshelf in the LRC which can be accessed by anyone. This is the Self-Help Shelf.
In the LRC, we have created a dedicated Higher Education area where our HE students can work in quiet and comfort. This area is situated at the top of the stairs in the LRC.
This space has been created with HE students in mind, with spaces for groups to come and collaborate on projects, and more relaxed desks and tables scattered around for independent study or to catch up on the Netflix show you have been watching.
The HE area is for you to use any digital technology you have to increase your knowledge and to make the most of your free time at the college.
