Identify areas of impairment
Document recovery where abatement plans have been implemented.
Site Selection
Lake sites are selected to update existing data or to address sites with little or no information.
Sampling
Lakes are sampled in accordance with the five-year hydrologic grouping watershed cycle.
Sampling occurred at one or more monitoring locations 4 times during May-October of 2017-2022.
Group A - 7 Lakes
Group B - 7 Lakes
Group C - 9 Lakes
Group D - 7 Lakes
*COVID travel restrictions prevented full lake monitoring in 2020.

How to Use the Map
Upper Left Corner of map
The upper left corner contains two icons.
Working from top to bottom, first icon is the zoom icon. Use the + and - to zoom in and/or out of the map.
The second icon in the upper left corner contains the home icon. Clicking this will return the map to the default extent.
Upper Right Corner of map
The upper right corner contains three icons.
Working from top to bottom, the first icon is a a list of map layers (stacked squares icon). Clicking on the stacked squares will bring up the list of layers. Each layer has a visibility icon to the right of the name. Click the visibility icon next to the layer you would like to turn on or off on the map.
The second icon is the legend, which only shows map layers when they are turned on. Layers shown in the legend may be represented with one symbol or many symbols. View the legend to see what the color of the symbols represent in each layer.
The third icon shows a search function (magnifying glass). To use this icon, type in a specific location and zoom to that area on the map.
The fourth icon will allow you to print the current view of the map.
To learn more about the features shown on the map, click on a specific feature to see a "pop up" providing details about an individual feature.

Search by lake
Left Panel of Dashboard
Use the list in the left panel to select or search for a WV lake.
When clicked, info about the lake will appear in the box above.
Search by HUC 8 Watershed
Upper Right Corner of Dashboard
Use the upper right corner of the dashboard to "Select by Watershed".
Clicking a watershed will zoom to that watershed and the lakes within it.
Click reset to return to the original view.
Zoom in the map
The lower right corner of the map contains the zoom icons. Use the + and - to zoom in or out of the map.
Map legend
The upper right corner of the map shows the legend. Layers shown in the legend may be represented with one symbol or many symbols. View the legend to see what the color of the symbols represent in each layer.

On the WVDEP website, look for the 2024 Cycle Year blue banner on the right. Click on the banner and download the Supplemental Tables to access the 303(d) list of impaired waters, 305(b) designated use support, and the AUID crosswalk.
